The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the shooting down of the sixth Russian aircraft, in the Kramatorsk area.
Recent updates indicate that more than 40 soldiers have been killed, about 10 civilians, and there are dozens of wounded. This information was advanced today by the advisor to the Ukrainian President's Office, Oleksiy Arestovych.
As recently as Thursday morning, there was a period of slight calm after the first Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory. However, reports cnn, there were more less intense attacks in Kiev, Kharkiv, Odessa and Mariupol, as the explosions during the night.
An eyewitness who saw and heard the latest attack in the town of Brovary, on the outskirts of Kiev, described the situation as "terrifying."
In Kharkiv five explosions were heard.
In the southern city of Odessa, cnn reports of an attack close enough to the city center that set off car alarms. Another explosion was heard along the coast of the same city after five or six distant explosions at dawn.
In Mariupol, in southeastern Ukraine, an artillery flurry was heard that lasted almost 20 seconds.
On the Ukraine-Russia border in the Belgorod region, more artillery rockets appear to have been fired from Russian territory into Ukrainian territory.
The United Nations refugee agency is stepping up operations and capacity in Ukraine and neighboring countries as people begin to flee Ukraine.
"We stand ready to support everyone's efforts to respond to any situation of forced displacement," said High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.
