For some time now, the public debate in Russia has revolved around the possible annexation of Portugal. And this week, a televised debate was the talk of the town...
This is a plan for the future that should, in the meantime, be a priority before Moscow turns its attention to the United States of America.
The idea is initially for Moscow to "denazify Germany", according to Russian TV presenter and propagandist Vladimir Solovyov, quoted by Sapo.
In his view, "[t]he Portuguese would live very well as part of the Russian empire". He even interrupted a guest's speech on the Rossiya 1 television channel to make this point.
Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of Russia Today, comes to Solovyov's defense, stressing that although Russia doesn't need the Portuguese nation, it "would very much like" to have it.
According to the door we quoted, this issue gained greater notoriety after the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
On Vladimir Solovyov's show, guests often discuss possible "special military operations" in neighboring countries that belong to NATO and have already shown support for Ukraine.
One of the main topics discussed in this particular panel of commentators was where Russia should stop after "liberating" Ukraine. For Solovyov, Russia should try to "liberate Lisbon", a city where "you can see the Statue of Liberty from here when the weather is good".
