The Russian Defense Ministry announced that 337 Ukrainian drones were shot down on Monday night, 91 of which were aimed at Moscow. One person died in what is considered to be the biggest Ukrainian attack since the start of the war.
"Air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 337 Ukrainian aerial drones, including 91 over the Moscow region and 126 over the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine," the Ministry said in a statement quoted by the international press.
In the Vladimir region, around 200 km east of Moscow, two drones were shot down and a village of around 800 inhabitants was evacuated, according to local authorities.
The other regions targeted were Bryansk and Belgorod, which border Ukraine, as well as Ryazan, Kaluga, Voronezh and NizhnyNovgorod.
As a result of the operation, the functioning of several airports was affected, even leading to the suspension of air navigation.
Ukraine, meanwhile, considered that the massive attack it launched last night against Moscow should encourage the Russian president to accept an air truce, proposed by Kiev as a precondition for possible talks to end the war.
"This is another signal to encourage Vladimir Putin to take an interest in an air truce," said Andriï Kovalenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian Governmental Center against Disinformation.
