RSA: Mozambicans arrested in North West accused of illegal mining

RSA: Moçambicanos detidos em North West acusado de mineração ilegal

Fourteen Mozambicans, including a fourteen-year-old minor, were arrested by the South African police on charges of illegal mining.

According to Rádio Moçambique, the individuals were arrested after leaving the Stilfontein mine in North West province on Sunday night.

The police say that the group, accused of illegal mining, chose to leave the mine at night because they assumed that there would be no patrols at that time.

Of the more than 1,000 illegal miners arrested so far, the majority are Mozambican.

This Monday, the juvenile court in Stilfontein begins examining the case of the involvement of more than a hundred children in illegal mining activities, and is expected to make a decision next Thursday.
