The beds of the Incomati and Maputo rivers in the south could overflow if there is significant rainfall over the next few days in Mozambique and/or in upstream countries.
The National Directorate for Water Management (DNGRH) indicates that the basins of these rivers have seen an increase in flow due to increased runoff, following the rain that fell in South Africa.
Cited by the newspaper Notícias, the DNGRH technician, Isac Filimone, said that the alert only refers to the two rivers, while those in the Center and North still have some capacity to flow.
"The flows from South Africa increased the hydrometric levels from the Ressano Garcia station to the Magude district. As a result, the riverbed overflowed, causing localized flooding," he said.
