Portuguese couple detained in Xai-xai for illegal immigration. Will be deported

A couple of Portuguese citizens have been detained since Tuesday in the city of Xai-xai, Gaza province, for illegal immigration. They were traveling in Mozambique with only an expired passport.

According to Radio MozambiqueThe couple was approached at the Incoluane checkpoint, in the Bilene district, when they were transporting eight Mozambican citizens to the city of Maxixe, in Inhambane province.

When the authorities checked the documentation, they found that one of the couple's spouses was traveling without travel documents. The Mozambicans presented valid and duly stamped passports.

According to the couple's statements, the Mozambicans are their workers in a company in South Africa, said Abeldo Nhanombe, spokesman for the Provincial Directorate of Migration in Gaza.

He revealed that the screening carried out by the Migration Service found that one of the spouses was carrying an expired passport.

The foreign nationals are resident in South Africa. Work is underway to repatriate one of the spouses.
