The Renamo party's representative, Geraldo Carvalho, said today in Maputo that the centralized results announced by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) are taking the people back to a one-party era.
For Carvalho, "this is playing with the Mozambican people. This is pulling the Mozambican people towards one-party rule."
The CNE announced today the results of the general elections, which give the advantage to the Frelimo party and its candidate, Daniel Chapo. The Podemos party won second place in parliament. Venâncio Mondlane was the second most voted presidential candidate. Renamo and Ossufo Momade followed in third place. The Democratic Movement of Mozambique and Lutero Simango took fourth place.
When asked to evaluate the results presented by the CNE, he raised questions: Who would accept something like that? Which Mozambican citizen is going to accept that kind of joke?
In his view, the results are out of context, since there has been evidence of electoral fraud.
"After everything we've seen, ballot boxes being tampered with, disproportionate stuffing. There are several videos that confirm that [ballot boxes] were stuffed for a particular candidate and party..." he said.
