More than half of the Maputo Special Reserve area, in Matutuine district, Maputo province, is being consumed by uncontrolled burning.
According to Notícias, the fire started yesterday afternoon, but so far, there is no sign on the ground of the personnel responsible for the reserve and even less of the district authorities in order to control the flames.
It is possible to see fallen power and communication poles, as a consequence of the intense fire that is consuming huge areas of the Reserve.
This scenario is forcing many animals to cross the road in search of a safe place, since the flames are scaring away the species that are there.
Julia Mwito, Matutuine district administrator, said that this is another uncontrolled burning action, which has led to her and other members of the government going to the field to control the fire.
