The mayor of Quelimane, Manuel de Araújo, claims not to have been consulted by his party, Renamo, about his candidacy for governor of Zambézia province.
This week, Renamo in Zambezia revealed to the press that Manuel de Araújo is the party's candidate for the provincial elections next October.
The announcement came while he was away from his municipality and he says that the information about his run for the position of Governor of Quelimane took him by surprise.
Speaking to the press in the district of Alto Mulócuè on his return from a trip abroad, D'Araújo also expressed his displeasure at the party's decision.
D'Araújo explained that he intends to appeal to his party's Council of Jurisdiction to challenge the appointment made by the Renamo delegate. In the event of an unfavorable response, he promises to resort to other instances to resolve the issue.
