The Renamo party is unable to locate 251 former guerrillas demobilized under the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) process.
According to information provided this Thursday (17) by the party's former Secretary General, André Magibire, during a press conference held in the city of Beira, the closure of Renamo's provincial offices, which is underway in some provinces of the country, is making it difficult to activate local social assistance mechanisms, with a direct impact on the reintegration of former guerrillas.
"We're talking about 251 combatants who we're unable to locate at the moment," said Magibire.
Renamo's political offices in Gaza and Manica are some of those that have been closed down by members who are unhappy with Ossufo Momade's leadership, including former combatants. Magibire condemned the practice and argued that "you can't close down a public institution just because the members don't like the president".
"The Renamo party is a democratic party, it has its organs, it has the National Council, it has Congress," he said, stressing that internal disputes should be resolved in the proper forums. In this context, the leader defended the need to urgently convene the National Council, as well as holding a National Staff Meeting, as a way of listening to the different sensitivities and preserving internal cohesion.
"I believe that all of us who are closed, even those who are closing delegations, if they have had the chance to sit down with everyone (...) things will improve," Magibire said in a publication by the Dossiers & Facts.
