Renamo schedules National Council meeting for April 14

Renamo agenda reunião do Conselho Nacional para 14 de Abril

Renamo, the main opposition party in Mozambique, has scheduled its National Council meeting for April 14 to discuss relevant aspects of the congress that will elect the party's candidate for the general elections scheduled for October 9 this year.

The date was announced to the media by the spokesman for Renamo's National Political Commission, Alfredo Magumisse, after a meeting that took place yesterday, Monday (08), in the office of Renamo President Ossufo Momade, in Maputo, during an Ordinary Session.

"The Political Commission, as is statutory, has decided to hold a session of the National Council on April 14 in the capital city of Maputo," said Magumisse, quoted by the AIM.

Under the slogan "Renamo forte, reflectindo sobre a democracia e reconciliação nacional" (Renamo strong, reflecting on democracy and national reconciliation), the Political Commission will have to prepare the necessary documentation to present to the National Council, which in turn will have to decide on the party congress.

With less than six months to go until the general elections in Mozambique, none of the three main national political forces, namely Frelimo, the ruling party, Renamo, the main opposition party, and the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), the third political force, has yet presented its presidential candidate.
