Since January, the United Kingdom and the United States of America (USA) have placed Mozambique on the list of dangerous countries where they recommend tourists not to visit or to "reconsider", especially this year.
In fact, Mozambique has been included in the list of countries where travel is considered dangerous by the British Foreign Office
According to the UK Foreign Office, quoted by VOAIn addition to Mozambique, the latest countries to be included on the British list of countries not to visit are Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Ukraine, Iran, Sudan and Lebanon.
For its part, the US State Department maintains Mozambique at warning level 3 for American citizens, out of a maximum of four. Within this level, Americans should "reconsider" traveling to Mozambique due to disturbances resulting from demonstrations.
Americans, says the State Department, should "reconsider traveling to Mozambique due to health issues, crime, civil instability and terrorism".
The demonstrations have become "often violent" with "looting, vandalism and destruction of property" and the police response often includes "live ammunition and tear gas".
"Violent crime such as robberies is a common occurrence," says the US State Department website, which also warns that Americans should not travel to "some districts of Cabo Delgado and Nampula provinces due to terrorism".
