Rehabilitation of the Port of Nacala may be concluded next year

The rehabilitation works at the Port of Nacala, in the province of Nampula, will only be concluded by July of next year.

The information was recently provided by the Director of the Port of Nacala, Neimo Induna, during a visit that the District Administrator of Nacala, Etelvina Fevereiro, made to the infrastructure to learn about the pace of work on its rehabilitation, modernization and expansion.

The source mentioned that the delay in the conclusion of the works results from the fact that they involve large disbursements, besides the fact that the market in the northern region of the country has difficulties in providing quality materials for the contractors.

Notícias" knows that the schedule of activities related to the project of rehabilitation, modernization and expansion of the Port of Nacala has been undergoing changes in function of the day-to-day dynamics.

At the moment, the execution level is at 34% and so there was a need to change the deadlines for completion.

Speaking on site, the administrator of Nacala, Etelvina Fevereiro, said that the work in progress will allow the decongestion of trucks along the port traffic circle.

The Port of Nacala is strategic because it is used to handle cargo from countries in the region, especially Malawi, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), in addition to goods for the northern part of the country.

For years, the Port of Nacala was under the management of Corredor de Desenvolvimento do Norte (CDN), under a concession regime, but in 2019, by Government decision, the infrastructure returned, effective January 2020, to the control of the company Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM).
