The reopening of tourism, one of the sectors most affected by the new coronavirus, is giving hope back to operators, especially tour guides.
Although the work of the guides is incipient, it has shown remarkable signs of growth in recent times, satisfying the interests of tourists from countries such as the United States of America, England, and Spain.
Arlindo Pindula, president of the Professional Association of Tour Guides of Mozambique, which has about 200 members, explained that the association requires members to have some training to know how to deal with tourists.
Indeed, the guide must have solid knowledge about the main points of tourist attraction in the country because there are many ligars whose historical and cultural value is almost unknown. "But with training it is easy to identify places of tourist interest, such is the case of the Central Market, Samora Machel Statue and Fortaleza (Maputo city)," stresses Arlindo Pindula quoted by the weekly Domingo, adding that: "a properly trained individual is in technical conditions to elaborate tourist itineraries".
However, Pindula understands that being a guide in Mozambique means being able to respond to challenges of various kinds: being active in social networks, being close to various agencies, among others.
"Social networks help in our daily lives. You have to be active and respond to requests very quickly, because the customer seeks information from several people at the same time and whoever responds quickly and with better prices wins," he explains.
