Kidnappings/Maputo: Illegal South Africans arrested in possession of firearms

Raptos/Maputo: Detidos sul-africanos ilegais na posse de armas de fogos

Five South African citizens were arrested by the Mozambican authorities for illegally entering Mozambique in the early hours of last Sunday, in the Inhagoia neighborhood of Maputo city.

During the raid, the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) found two illegal and vicious firearms and 29 rounds of ammunition in the possession of the South Africans.

According to the PRM, some of the detainees allegedly crossed borders using false documentation.

On the other hand, the authorities suspect that these foreigners are involved in trafficking networks between Mozambique and South Africa.

The police said that the type of weapons found on the suspects were similar to those used in kidnappings in the country.

When they were questioned, the citizens allegedly threatened the PRM agents.

Quoted by STV, they assumed ownership of the weapons and claimed they were on their way to a family ceremony in Magude, Maputo province.
