A recent meeting between the Islamic, Hindu and Ismaili communities on the premises of the Mahometan community, which aimed to outline actions to combat the wave of kidnappings in the country 13 years ago, decided to promote tax disobedience.
According to Mozambique ChannelThe idea of tax disobedience is contained in a document issued by the group that met last week.
There is also pressure to close down commercial activities, the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) recently warned.
"The business community as a whole has been exerting pressure so that we can take radical measures to put pressure on the government.... They are threatening to paralyze commercial activity... at some point we may not be able to hold off this pressure, and the measures that businesspeople have been proposing will come into play," the weekly recalled, quoting Pedro Baltazar, from the CTA.
The newspaper reports that data compiled by the community group points to a profit of more than 350 million dollars for the kidnapping industry in Mozambique, from which around 150 families have already fled.
