Nearly 20,000 hectares of various crops are thought to have been lost in Maputo province due to adverse climatic factors, with a focus on drought and flooding, in the 2021-2022 agricultural season, affecting 16,000 families.
Meanwhile, the current 2022-2023 agricultural season, launched last week, could be marked by sufficient water for agricultural production, but producers will have to be alert to adverse natural phenomena that could affect crop development.
The governor of Maputo province, Júlio Parruque, said that despite the adversities, agricultural activity in this part of the country has made significant progress thanks to the collaboration of extension workers.
With the hiring of new technicians, Maputo province will increase from 255 to 280 extension workers, who should improve assistance to producers, especially those in the family sector.
