The government, through the Ministry of Land and Environment (MTA), has issued 854,337 Land Use Right (DUAT) titles since 2022, out of a target of two million set under the Mozland-Terra Segura Project.
According to the head of the department, Ivete Maibasse, in addition to the DUATs, 648 communities have been delimited out of the 1,200 planned in the project.
The minister revealed these figures this Wednesday in Maputo, during the launch of the Electronic Platform for Land Conflict Management (PEGCT), valued at 192 million meticais.
For Ivete Maibasse, the new platform is an initiative of the MTA in partnership with the Sustainable Development Fund, which aims, among other things, to regulate, respond to manifestations of land conflicts, listen to and receive suggestions and clarifications from users in relation to the DUAT.
According to the government official quoted by AIMIn addition to issuing DUATs, 191 cases of land conflicts were registered throughout the country, 20 of which were in Maputo province.
Maputo is the province with the highest number of cases of land conflicts. On the other hand, Niassa is the province with the lowest number of cases.
According to Maibasse, the demand for requests has been greater due to the exercise of various program activities for the mass regularization of occupations acquired through customary norms and practices in good faith, imposing on the MTA the challenge of responding in a timely manner.
In fact, the sector believes that the resolution of land conflicts in Mozambique, despite being ensured through the formal judicial system, such as district courts, reality shows that the solution should not be limited to the application of formal justice.
