A total of 33,126 people displaced by the insurgency and cyclone victims benefited from health and protection services in 2022 under an ActionAid project in the northern province of Niassa, the institution announced today, quoted by Lusa.
The communities in four districts of Niassa benefited from medical consultations, psycho-social support, general medical services, social action and routine vaccinations for children up to the age of 4, through mobile health brigades.
The "Project for the Protection of Internally Displaced Persons, Host Communities and People Affected by Tropical Cyclone Gombe" is being implemented by ActionAid and is funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), with activities taking place between July and December.
"Of the 33,126, there are 310 beneficiaries with special needs [disabilities] and 4,298 have psycho-social support," he added.
According to the document, as part of the project, 251 displaced women and women from host communities, due to the armed conflict in Cabo Delgado, benefited from activities in ActionAid's "Safe Spaces", which aim to "strengthen the protection of women, girls and children".
The Safe Spaces provide "advice and assistance on issues of psycho-social support and gender-based violence", as well as referring cases to the appropriate services.
This year, the mobile health brigades are expected to continue, as well as the activities of the Safe Spaces and Child-Friendly Spaces, the note concludes.
