The nutritional education program "Growing Well", officially launched yesterday in the town of Nametil, Nampula province, by the wife of the President of the Republic, Isaura Nyusi, will benefit five million Mozambican children.
Under the initiative, around 2.5 million women in rural areas will be trained over the next five years.
This is a project of the First Lady's Office, in articulation with the Government, and its main objective is to raise awareness and mobilize society, particularly pregnant women, mothers, and caregivers, to combat chronic malnutrition by changing eating habits.
Isaura Nyusi announced, however, that the work carried out by her office, together with the government and partners, allowed the reduction, in the last five years, of the chronic malnutrition rates from 43 percent to 38 percent in underage children, as attested by the Household Budget Survey (IOF).
