Health professionals intend to escalate the strike. "The PR should be ashamed of itself..."

Profissionais de Saúde tencionam agudizar a greve. “O PR devia ter vergonha…”

Services in the health units are at half gas, as health workers have decided to boycott activities after the normal working hours of 15:30.

According to the President of the Association of United and Solidary Health Professionals of Mozambique (APSUSM), Anselmo Muchave, in an attempt to resolve the issues that concern the class, the list of demands has been reduced.

"Our demands from the first charter have practically been reduced," said Muchave, who criticized the President of the Republic's stance on the class's insistence on demanding their rights.

"The new President of the Republic should even be a little ashamed when he questions why health professionals insist on going on strike, knowing that the Association is new."

As he said, APSUSM has submitted two "request for dialog" documents this year alone, which have not been answered. And, in his view, it was appropriate for the Executive, instead of ignoring them, to send messages of thanks for the dedication and commitment to the service provided during the demonstrations.

"No thanks from the government to the health professionals," he said.

He added, however, that the agreements have already been reached, but the government has yet to indicate the dates for their implementation, such as the payment of exclusivity allowances. In general, the aim is to improve working conditions for professionals and hospitality for patients.

"We're still drugging people without medication. Our aim is to close, because we did the strike in phases. We're saying that 80% of the health units were totally closed, and we're in the first phase, which is just the withdrawal of shifts, weekends and holidays. Within this week, if the government doesn't reach an agreement with us, we'll be forced to get a little worse, until we reach a total withdrawal of health workers," he warned. (Source: STV)
