The National Teachers' Association, ANAPRO, is threatening to boycott the ceremonies for the start of the 2024 school year if the more than 13 months of overtime arrears are not paid. They blame the Minister of Education and Human Development, whom they accuse of failing to tell the truth.
The teachers expressed their indignation at Wednesday's march in the city of Matola.
"We're tired of being anyizedWe are demanding what is rightfully ours. They're not paying overtime. We are demanding improvements in working conditions. We're saying that if the government doesn't respond to our demands, we won't be there for the opening of the school year throughout the country," said Isac Marengula, President of the National Teachers' Association (ANAPRO).
ANAPRO accuses the Minister of Education and Human Development, Carmelita Namashulua, of failing to tell the truth about the payment of salary arrears.
"The Minister lied. She said they were going to pay overtime and no one who is here has received it," said one of the teachers who joined the march.
