After the submission and evaluation of proposals for series for the Maningue Magic channel, the presentation of the projects is now underway. The presentation will take place on September 4 and 5, from 2pm to 5pm, at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Center (CCFM) in Maputo.
In total, 64 proposals were received and, of these, six projects from Mozambican production companies were selected, namely "Corações Amargos", by Ideias; "Chovem Amores na Rua do Matadouro", by CineGroup; "Ex-Amissíssimas", "Buma", and "Subúrbios" by AfroCinemakers; and, "Os Magnatas", by Smart.
These proposals convinced the jury because of their originality, narrative quality and production feasibility, as well as their suitability for the Maningue Magic channel's target audience.
The presentations, three for each day, will be open to the public, including other producers, giving other interested parties the opportunity to learn, with the right to ask questions after each presentation.
The presentations will be judged by a jury made up of the director of the Maningue Magic channel, João Ribeiro; the commissioning editor of the Maningue Magic channel, Bruno Silva; the marketing, public relations and communications director of MultiChoice Mozambique, Jónia Presado; the Mozambican designer and producer, João Roxo Leão; and the Angolan filmmaker, Ery Claver.
The Maningue Magic channel is committed to supporting the development of the local industry by providing a platform for Mozambican producers to showcase their talent and creativity. In fact, this initiative is a milestone for the film industry in Mozambique, since there has never been an experience of this nature in the country.
"We are excited to promote this pioneering pitching session in Mozambique. We want to give a voice to local producers and provide a unique opportunity to develop and boost the film industry in the country," says João Ribeiro, Director of the Maningue Magic channel.
This initiative takes place as part of the 14th edition of KUGOMA, the oldest Mozambican film festival, organized by the Association of Friends of the Cinema Museum in Mozambique. It holds open-air and indoor screenings, workshops, masterclasses, screenings in schools and helps to promote future Mozambican and African filmmakers.
