The Manica Provincial Prosecutor's Office has filed a case against four children for the theft of computer equipment from its premises.
The minors are aged between 12 and 16 and are accused of stealing a computer, a flash drive and a cell phone.
The chief prosecutor in the city of Chimoio, Remígio Guiamba, is currently carrying out an investigation into the theft of the material.
"The process is at the instruction stage, of course it won't be instructed by the City Attorney's Office, otherwise it would be acting on its own behalf. So it's being handled by other entities. But I think we're still at a very early stage. The investigation is complex and requires a little more time. The only thing I can say is that the minors who have been presented, one of them is already 16 years old. This one, for the purposes of criminal liability, can already be heard and tried in the ordinary courts," said the source, quoted by Radio Mozambique.
The spokesman for the PRM in Manica, Mateus Mindu, said that the minors were part of a gang with experience in the world of crime, and he hopes that the minors will be resocialized.
"They have a long record in the criminal world. They have passed through our subunits. We hope that this time legal steps will be taken to get the minors resocialized so that they can leave the world of crime once and for all," he said.
