Mozambique's attorney general, Américo Letela, believes that human behavior is the main factor responsible for the destruction of the coast in the southern province of Inhambane.
According to Letela, who spoke to journalists on Sunday (17) during his visit to Barra beach in Inhambane, in addition to the effects of climate change, human behavior is responsible for the destruction of marine ecosystems.
Quoted AIMThe magistrate explained that there are many infrastructures built in areas prohibited by law, which means that the ecosystem "is being destroyed by those who want to favor their personal gains".
"Construction should be avoided in legally prohibited areas, such as environmental protection areas. Nature is nature. When we invade its area, we will have great difficulty in containing it and, above all, in avoiding certain situations that we are witnessing here," said Letela.
"We must respect our environmental legislation. We, as the Public Prosecutor's Office, will do everything in our power, together with other entities, to reinforce coastal surveillance in order to prevent human action," he added.
