PROCAVA Mozambique voted "best program" by the International Fund for Agricultural Development

PROCAVA Moçambique eleito “melhor programa” pelo Fundo Internacional de Desenvolvimento Agrícola

The Program for the Inclusive Development of Agri-Food Value Chains (PROCAVA) was recently distinguished by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a UN agency, as the best program in its funding portfolio..

The award is the result of an evaluation of several similar continental programs co-financed by IFAD, which valued aspects such as management, monitoring and performance evaluation.

For the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries (MAAP), this distinction demonstrates that "Mozambique is still capable of showing how good management and results-oriented planning is done".

Being implemented since May 2020 and scheduled for completion in 2030, PROCAVA covers 75 districts in all the country's provinces.

The program's main objective is to reduce poverty, improve food and nutrition security and strengthen the livelihoods of rural communities, with a focus on climate resilience.

According to official figures, PROCAVA aims to reach 180,500 families, mostly small farmers, by promoting increased income through agri-food value chains that are resilient to climate change, especially the horticulture, cassava and red meat chains.

IFAD is an international financial institution and a specialized agency of the United Nations.

Since 1983, IFAD has invested more than 386.47 million dollars in 15 rural development programs and projects in Mozambique, for a total of almost 585 million dollars. These interventions have directly benefited 2.3 million rural families.
