The Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD) today accused the Mozambique Republic Police (PRM) of taking the lives of nine citizens, injuring dozens and making 47 arbitrary arrestsduring demonstrations against the election results.
The PRM General Command made no mention of any deaths in today's report of incidents on Thursday and early Friday morning. However, at least the PRM in the city of Nampula announced yesterday that there had been one fatality. A citizen was fatally shot by the PRM.
Maputo, Manica and Nampula were the main scenes of protests and violations of citizens' human rights, especially the right to life and physical integrity, according to the CDD. "The right to demonstrate laid down in article 51 of the Constitution of the Republic was also violated."
