Eighteen citizens were arrested on Monday (21) in Nampula province for their involvement in the protests against electoral fraud and the murder of Elvino Dias and Paulo Guambe.
Suspected of disturbing public order, the individuals were arrested in the districts of Mogovolas, Eráti and the city of Nampula, according to information shared by the PRM.
One of the accused, a resident of the Muhala Expansão neighborhood, who was heard by the press, claims to have been mistaken for people who put tires on the road. He said that, in fact, the tires had been on the road for a long time.
"I don't know. I was passing through on my way home. The tires had been stored there for a long time," said spokeswoman Rosa Chaúque.
The PRM said that the detainees were supporters of the Podemos party.
"The individuals grouped together, set up barricades on the avenues and burned tires. Thanks to the prompt intervention of the police, we were able to arrest 18 individuals who are in our custody," he said.
She appealed to the population not to join in situations that could lead to public disorder.
