A couple has been arrested in the city of Xai-Xai, Gaza province, southern Mozambique, on charges of stealing a two-month-old baby.
According to Carlos Macuácua, head of Public Relations at the Provincial Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Gaza, the act took place in neighboring South Africa.
"The accused were arrested at the Chissano Health Center, in the Limpopo district, when they were trying to register the child to obtain a prenatal card," said Carlos Macuácua, quoted by the Limpopo newspaper. News.
However, the woman implicated in the case said that she had been offered the baby by a pregnant woman due to alleged financial difficulties in supporting the child.
