The Provincial Office for Combating Corruption (GPCC) in Sofala confirms the arrest of lawyer P. Lourenço, accused of attempted bribery, and whose criminal proceedings are ongoing.
The lawyer is accountable to the competent authorities after he was arrested in the act of trying to bribe agents from the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) with 100,000 meticais, explained GPCC spokeswoman Marina Macamo, quoted by the newspaper. News.
The unlawful act was intended to hinder a trial taking place in Marromeu, in which P. Lourenço is a trustee and whose defendant is accused of an aggravated crime.
According to Macamo, the lawyer was arrested by the SERNIC agent, who then took him to the Provincial Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, where the report was drawn up and sent to the GPCC.
Once all the other subsequent procedures have been carried out, steps are awaited to carry out the first interrogation and/or legalize the arrest.
The lawyer is accused of committing the crime of active corruption and the penalty is two years and a corresponding fine.
