Frelimo first secretary: "Opposition may march, but it won't win in Quelimane"

Primeiro secretário da Frelimo: “Oposição pode marchar, mas não vai vencer em Quelimane”

The first secretary of the FRELIMO party in Zambezia province said on Saturday in Quelimane that the opposition, especially Renamo, can march as many times and for as many days as it wants, but that it will not win these elections in that municipality.

According to Paulino Lenço, quoted by DW, the Constitutional Council (CC) will not change the results announced by the Quelimane District Electoral Commission (CDE), which give the advantage to his party's list leader.

"Renamo is a party like any other, and that's why it's launching a movement to get voters throughout Zambezia province and win the 2024 elections," said Paulino Lenço.

Just yesterday, after the pronouncements by the Frelimo secretary, party members took to the streets in anticipation of the victory. The official announcement will be made next Wednesday (15.11) by the CC.

The results presented by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) indicate a victory for Frelimo, the ruling party, in 64 of the country's 65 municipalities, while MDM, the third largest party, won only in Beira.

The sixth local elections in Mozambique took place in 65 municipalities on October 11, including 12 new municipalities that went to the polls for the first time.
