French Prime Minister Michel Barnier resigned hours after the National Assembly voted him out of office.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Macron refuses to step down after the fall of Michel Barnier's government and accuses the far right and far left of joining an anti-republican cause.
In a statement to the nation on Thursday, Macron said that the country cannot stand still and that he will soon announce a new prime minister.
"I'm going to appoint a prime minister in the next few days. I will ask that person to create a government of national interest. That prime minister will form a united government at your service," he added.
"My responsibility is to guarantee the continuity of the state, the proper functioning of our institutions, the independence of our country and the protection of all of you," said Emmanuel Macron, quoted by the international press.
With the state budget due to be debated next week, Macron is already facing street protests. More than two hundred thousand people have taken to the streets, thirty thousand of them in the capital Paris. The French President was elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2022.
