The first Mozambican telenovela, Maida, premiered last week in Angola. The content reaches Angolan viewers through Kwenda Magic (DStv Angola - position 502), from Monday to Friday, at 5.30pm - a channel for Angolan territory only.
The telenovela Maida has captured the attention of children, young people and adults in Mozambique and is currently also broadcast in six countries (Niger, Ivory Coast, Haiti, Madagascar and Congo) in a French dubbed version.
Maida is the first Mozambican telenovela to be shown in prime time with new episodes from Monday to Friday, uninterrupted, since January 17, 2022.
The quality of the production has attracted interest from other markets, with particular emphasis on participation in international awards such as the International Emmy Awards (in the United States) and the Africa Magic Viewer's Choice Awards (in Nigeria).
"This telenovela represents recognition that we in Mozambique have the capacity to produce and produce fiction based on local resources on a regular basis and with international quality... We hope that the Angolan public will welcome us with open arms and that this moment will serve to promote national content and actors in the diaspora, reinforcing the exchange of content between the two countries," explained João Ribeiro, Director of Canal Maningue Magic.
Maida portrays the life of a naive young girl from a rural background who left her family and studies to go to the big city to work as a maid in the home of the wealthy and complex Sitoe family.
The telenovela, produced by Panavídeo, is an adaptation of a successful format that has already been produced and aired in Africa and in Mozambique is now in its 400th episode.
