First lady initials agreement with Merck to train Mozambican doctors

The Office of the First Lady of the Republic and Merck have just signed a memorandum of understanding to award 140 scholarships, 100 of which are for the specialization of doctors and nurses and the rest for vulnerable girls in Mozambique..

According to a Sunday newspaperAt the signing of the agreement, which took place today, Friday (20), in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the wife of the President of the Republic, Gueta Chapo, called for transparency in the process of awarding the scholarships.

"We have promised the Mozambican people that we will be ruthless. We will not tolerate corruption in order to enroll people. That's why we're going to work closely with the Ministry of Health, because it knows which areas have a shortage of specialists to serve the communities," he reiterated.

In this context, he encouraged the inclusion of professionals from the districts in order to improve the provision of health care throughout the country.

For her part, the President of the Merck Foundation, Rasha Kelej, praised Chapo's dedication to the most vulnerable groups and described his work over the past six months as incredible.
