Rwandan president promotes military chief who operated in Cabo Delgado against terrorism

Major General Innocent Kabandana was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General by President Paul Kagame, who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF).

According to the newspaper the "Carta" which cites a statement from the Rwandan Defense Forces, General Kabandana's promotion comes as part of "his service commission in Mozambique," where he was commander of the joint task force of Rwandan security forces in Cabo Delgado province, deployed in July 2021 at Maputo's request to combat terrorists.

In its publication "Carta" writes that Rwandan troops, together with those from Mozambique, dislodged the terrorists and restored the authority of the state, especially in the districts of Palma and Mocímboa da Praia. Kabandana, a former commander of the Rwandan Military Academy and former commander of the Special Forces, holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Oklahoma Christian University, USA.

His other previous important appointments include Brigade Officer in charge of Civil Military Affairs, Chief Instructor at the Rwanda Military Academy in Gakko and Deputy Chief of Military Personnel at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). He also served as Chairman of the Military Competitions Board, Head of Logistics and Director of the Rwanda Peace Academy. (Letter)
