Mozambican President Daniel Chapo yesterday inaugurated the new Nampula Provincial Court building in the city of the same name, which will help speed up proceedings and respond to demand.
“Nampula province faces major challenges with procedural demand, transnational organized crime, trafficking in drugs, organs and human beings, money laundering, illegal exploitation of mineral, forest and wildlife resources, illegal immigration, among other evils, considering that this is the province with the largest population, and therefore where judicial services are most sought after,“ he said.
According to Chapo, it was agreed that integrity and public trust are fundamental pillars for the maintenance of public order, security and tranquillity, as well as for the fair implementation of the law and, above all, the trust that the population has in public institutions.
“This infrastructure represents a decisive step towards improving the working conditions of judicial institutions and, at the same time, strengthening access to justice for our people,” he said.
He explained that corruption in the judiciary has implications for the justice system and among the most worrying consequences are the corrosion of public confidence in the judiciary and the weakening of the democratic foundations of the rule of law.
