The President of Renamo accused the government of not fully complying with the peace and national reconciliation agreements as well as the agreement on the definitive cessation of military hostilities. Ossufo Momade's statements were made in the northern city of Nampula, where he is on a working visit..
The agreement on the cessation of military hostilities between the government and RENAMO was signed in September 2019, however, the President of the main opposition party is now raising some concerns regarding the integration of his men into the army and police.
"The government is not complying, and at the moment we only have 46 members in the Mozambican police, which is a shame because the Renamo guerrillas are Mozambicans. Where is the fear of these being framed in the police of the Republic of Mozambique?" said Ossufo Momade quoted by RFI.
Ossufo Momade also reveals that the non-payment of pensions adds to the list of concerns.
"We are already working with the international community and a team has already been set up so that it can work so that the demobilized have their pension up to date," he added.
However and despite all these situations, Ossufo Momade - President of RENAMO, the main opposition party, visiting Nampula province and already thinking about next year's local elections, is satisfied with the course of the Demilitarization, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) process, which should involve 6,200 men.
