The president of the Cabo Delgado Provincial Assembly, Francisco Loureiro, on Wednesday in the city of Pemba, defended a package of specific economic acceleration measures for the province, which has been plagued by rebel attacks for almost six years now.

For Francisco Loureiro, "Cabo Delgado is a national territory that we all know is going through a difficult time".

"I think that the measures announced by the President are general measures, so why not specific measures for Cabo Delgado province as well?" he asked, quoted by Lusa, who was speaking during the seminar to announce the Economic Acceleration Package (PAE), organized by the Ministry of Finance in the city of Pemba.

The PAE was announced by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, in August 2022, as a set of 20 fiscal, administrative and financial measures aimed at making life easier for companies and boosting economic growth throughout the country.

However, the difficulties in accessing the reclaimed areas are pointed out by the president of the Cabo Delgado Provincial Assembly as one of the main obstacles, a problem that could be solved by defining a package of specific measures.

The province of Cabo Delgado has been facing an armed insurgency for almost six years, with some attacks claimed by the extremist group Islamic State.
