As of today, the President of the Assembly of the Republic (AR), Esperança Bias, is on a three-day visit to Russia, at the invitation of her counterpart, Valentina Matvienko.
A note from the HR states that in Moscow, Bias is due to address the 544th Plenary Session of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, hold meetings with the chairman of the State Duma (lower house of the Russian parliament), Vyacheslav Volodin, and with Valentina Matvienko.
During his official visit to the Eastern European country, Bias will also meet with the Mozambican community and visit some historical sites.
Maputo abstained in all the votes at the United Nations on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, advocating a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
According to Rádio Moçambique, the visit will also serve to reinforce Mozambique's neutrality and show that it is in favor of a peaceful resolution to the situation.
The Russian ambassador in Maputo believes that Mozambique and his country need to strengthen economic ties even more, despite the current favorable situation in Europe.
