Mozambique's presence at the UN contributed to the perception of the country's position on the war in Ukraine

Presença de Moçambique na ONU contribuiu para a percepção da posição do país em relação a guerra na Ucrânia

Mozambique's representative to the United Nations argues that the country's presence on the UN Security Council has helped to raise awareness of Mozambique's position on the war in Ukraine.

For Commissioner Pedro, the fact that the country has taken a seat as a non-permanent member of the Security Council has increased the understanding of other members and the world in general about the country's neutrality in relation to the conflict.

This perception was also reinforced in Maputo by the heads of diplomacy of Ukraine and Russia, who recently visited Mozambique at separate times.

The Commissioner believes that it should come as no surprise that the two diplomats expressed understanding for the Mozambican position.

Speaking to Rádio Moçambique in Maputo about the first year since the country's election as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, Ambassador Pedro Comissário said that the implementation of the national agenda in the body is being duly carried out.

It should be noted that along with Mozambique, Ecuador, Malta, Japan and Switzerland were elected last year and will also occupy seats as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the 2023/2024 biennium. (RM)
