Onion prices may stabilize in Maputo city and province

Onion prices may stabilize in the city and province of Maputo. This could be the result of post-flood production in that region of the country, an official source told Rádio Moçambique.

According to the Provincial Director of Industry and Commerce in Maputo, Pedro Manhice, the current agricultural harvest is expected to produce around 85,000 onions on an area of 4,500 hectares, an increase of around 3.3 % compared to last year.

The source was also quoted by RM as saying that part of the production will be available on the domestic market from next month.

With this scenario, the source we have been quoting believes that the shortage of the product will be addressed, which will allow imports to be reduced and the price on the market to stabilize.
