On Tuesday evening, the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, held a high-level meeting in the district of Báruè, Manica province, with the Special Representative of the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama.
The main purpose of the audience was to deliver an official message from the Ghanaian Head of State regarding Muhammad Adam's candidacy for the post of Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the 2026-2029 term.
The act is part of Ghana's diplomatic efforts to seek support for its candidate, whose election is scheduled to take place during the 123rd Session of the UNWTO General Assembly, to be held on May 29 and 30.
During the meeting, views were shared on the importance of tourism as a driving force for sustainable development, as well as strengthening the relations of friendship and cooperation between Mozambique and Ghana, two African countries committed to valuing natural and cultural heritage as strategic assets for the economy.
President Daniel Chapo thanked his Ghanaian counterpart for his consideration, reiterating Mozambique's commitment to strengthening the bonds of solidarity within multilateral African diplomacy.
Muhammad Adam is a diplomat and the candidate officially supported by the African Union for the post of Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) for the 2026 to 2029 term.
His candidacy was formally presented by Ghana and has the active support of President John Dramani Mahama, who has been campaigning among the international diplomatic community to garner votes in his favor.
With a solid diplomatic career, Muhammad Adam served as Ghana's ambassador to Spain until December 2024, as well as acting as consul general in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and counselor at the Ghanaian embassy in Madrid, Spain.
