PR promulgates the Organic Law of the Public Ministry

The Mozambican Head of State, Filipe Nyusi, promulgated the Organic Law of the Public Ministry and the Statute of Magistrates, a legislative instrument that was revised and readjusted to the challenges of combating terrorism, announced the Presidency.

"The referred Law was recently approved by the Parliament and submitted to the President of the Republic for promulgation, and the Head of State verified that it does not contradict the Fundamental Law," the Presidency said in a statement.

In its revision, the Organic Law of the Public Prosecutor's Office reinforces the fight against terrorism in Mozambique, foreseeing the creation of a specific area within the Specialized Department for the Criminal Area dedicated to the investigation and prosecution of complex criminality, which includes terrorism.

Since July, an offensive by government troops with Rwandan support, later joined by the Southern African Development Community (SADC), allowed to increase security, recovering several areas where there was rebel presence, including the town of Mocímboa da Praia, which had been occupied since August 2020.
