The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, has sent a message of congratulations to António da Costa, the former Portuguese Prime Minister, on his recent election to the post of President of the European Council.
"On behalf of the people, the Government of the Republic of Mozambique and myself, I would like to congratulate you and wish you success in leading the destinies of the European Council, the main body of the organization. It was a vote expressing the confidence of the Heads of State and Government of the 27 Member States of the European Union in your ability to promote unity and the strategic agenda for the next five years, demonstrated during the leadership of one of the Member States of the European Union, managing to stabilize its economy in a context of multiple adversities," reads a message from the Head of State quoted by "Notícias".
Nyusi also says in the message that the election to this prestigious post raises the expectations not only of the peoples and countries that are part of the European Union, in a leadership conducive to achieving their aspirations, but also of the peoples and countries that have close ties with the organization, such as the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries, in general, and Africa, in particular.
"We assure you that you can count on Mozambique to implement the commitments of the Samoa Agreement; the Neighborhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) - Global Europe; the Global Gateway Strategy and the EU-AU Joint Vision for 2030, as well as the deepening of the partnership, solidarity and cooperation with the European Union, for the progress and well-being of our peoples," said the President.
