The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, urges the judicial and district courts to judge with principles of neutrality and transparency the cases of electoral offenses that may arise from the current process, whose campaign began on the 26th of this month.
According to the Mozambican head of state, who was speaking last Friday in Maputo at the inauguration of two judicial courts, one in Ka-Lhamanculo and the other in Ka-Mavota, these courts (the district courts) are legally the first instance to which people turn in the event of disputes arising from the electoral process.
"The district courts (...) must be aware that, when judging, they must observe the principles of neutrality and transparency," recommended Nyusi, quoted by AIM.
Therefore, for the President of the Republic, "it is necessary to consider the different points of view, bearing in mind that electoral activities are of the highest national interest and have priority over others in this period in which we find ourselves."
Therefore, as a way of guaranteeing the credibility of this process and respect for the vote cast at the ballot box, Nyusi highlights the impartiality and speed of the judicial courts as an indispensable factor.
For those involved in the electoral process, including political parties and coalitions, the Head of State discourages acts of victimization because he considers that such attitudes can stimulate violence within the electorate.
"We don't encourage acts of self-victimization of candidates or groups of politicians, because these can create violence within the electorate," he said, adding that on October 11, the priority of every Mozambican should be to cast their vote at the ballot box.
The President urges the electorate after voting "to leave the polling station and wait calmly for the results to be counted, validated and proclaimed by the competent authorities".
