The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, sent a message of greeting to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the National Union of Journalists (SNJ), highlighting the firm and visionary leadership of the SNJ's board, which has guided the institution over the last few decades.
The statesman emphasized the union's historical and ongoing importance as a defender of press freedom and the dignity of the journalistic profession in the country.
In his message, President Chapo highlights the SNJ's important role in defending journalists' rights, promoting press freedom and dignifying the profession.
The Head of State also stressed the importance of journalism as a fundamental pillar of democracy, social cohesion and the promotion of citizenship, highlighting the values of courage, commitment and professionalism of journalists, which continue to sustain the profession.
"Under the slogan 'SNJ, 47 years celebrating the courage, commitment and professionalism of journalists', we pay tribute to the bravery, dedication and sense of mission of our media professionals. It is these values that continue to underpin the role of journalism as one of the fundamental pillars of democracy, social cohesion and the promotion of citizenship."
The President of the Republic reaffirmed the government's commitment to working closely with the SNJ to promote a safe, free and professional environment for the exercise of the media in the country.
"In this historic journey, the SNJ has been a strategic partner of the state in defending the rights of journalists, promoting press freedom and dignifying the profession. I therefore reaffirm the commitment of the Government of Mozambique to continue working closely with the National Union of Journalists, in a spirit of dialogue, mutual respect and joint construction of a safer, freer and more professional environment for the exercise of the media in our country."
The Head of State also acknowledged the challenges facing the journalistic profession and the collective responsibility to guarantee the conditions for journalism to continue to flourish with integrity, impartiality and responsibility.
Concluding his message, President Daniel Chapo addressed words of encouragement to Mozambican journalists, renewing his wishes for perseverance, courage and renewed professionalism.
"May the SNJ continue to be a beacon of unity, ethics and development within the journalistic profession. Congratulations on 47 years of achievements and resilience!
