PR assures that it has already started mobilizing contractors to replace EN1

PR assegura que já iniciou mobilização de empreiteiros para repor EN1

The President of the Republic (PR), Daniel Chapo, said on Saturday (15) that contractors are already mobilizing to carry out the work to replace the sections of National Road number one (EN1) destroyed by severe tropical storm Jude in Nampula province.

Chapo flew over part of the districts affected by Jude in Nampula province on Saturday, visiting the districts of Mossuril, Ilha de Moçambique (where he interacted with families in accommodation centers) and Meconta.

In the town of Namialo, in the district of Meconta, PR went to the Monapo River and saw the damage caused by this extreme weather phenomenon, which led to the EN1 being cut off.

"We have enormous damage, especially to our number one national road, which connects Cabo Delgado province and Nampula province," said the PR, pointing out that "the contractor has already started mobilizing. There's a group of contractors who were in Sofala, they've left, they're on their way and another group of contractors has also left from Cabo Delgado province."

On the other hand, Chapo guaranteed that the contractors will be working at full speed so that "we can restore the minimum crossing in the first phase and then, more calmly, repair the bridge and get back on the road without too much difficulty".

"We are happy with our level of readiness," said the PR, who assured that actions were underway to provide humanitarian assistance to the people affected by Jude. (Ikwweli)
