World streaming leader Netflix will shoot a feature film in the center of the capital city of Lisbon (Portugal) early next semester, according to a Portuguese portal. The film is expected to star an Israeli actress.
The source says that the information was advanced by the Parish Council of Santa Maria Maior, an entity concerned with the possibility of the "right to rest" of the residents not being respected during the filming. There's going to be a big action sequence in Terreiro do Paço.
The parish claims that filming for eight nights could "condition the right to rest."
"The executive of the Santa Maria Maior Parish Council expresses its apprehension and opposition to the possibility of abusive occupation of public space foreseen in a night filming plan presented by the Ready to Shoot production company, in a production for Netflix, due to the negative impact that this filming - eight consecutive nights and two days - will cause to the quality of life, the right to rest and tranquility, and the right to mobility of the residents of the contemplated areas.
The recordings will take place between 6pm and 8am the next day, taking the area to experience war scenarios for more than a week.
For the film, they will use "effects of fire, gunfire, car crashes, car and motorcycle chases, motorcycle chases down the stairs and steps of the neighborhoods, and other various special effects in Baixa, Chiado, and Mouraria, [and these] will not fail to cause great inconvenience to the resident population, especially families with children and the elderly," reads the statement also consulted by MZNews.
Among other foreseeable constraints, the Santa Maria Maior Parish Council assumes that it has no powers, within its legal powers, to prevent these shootings as planned.
"This is an exclusive competence of the Lisbon City Council - and regrets that Mr. Mayor Carlos Moedas has already expressed his enthusiasm for its realization, without first knowing the opinion or advice of the parish council," the parish wrote.
"The issue is being analyzed by the Lisbon City Hall, in close coordination with the Parish Councils involved, and the normal procedures for this type of process are underway," says cnnportugal, citing the Parish.
