Port of Beira could reach all-time record for cargo handling

Porto da Beira poderá atingir recorde histórico de manuseamento de carga

The Port of Beira could reach an all-time containerized cargo handling record of 400,000 TEU's by the end of this year.

This historic milestone, which is almost a given, according to Rádio Moçambique, will be achieved thanks to the new markets in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Zimbabwe, which have recently been conquered.

The Port of Beira's cargo terminal managers are convinced of this because from January to July this year, the port handled 225,000 TEU's of various types of cargo, which represents an increase of 41% when compared to the same period last year.

The data was revealed by the operations director of Cornelder Mozambique, Miguel de Jenda, to this public broadcaster.

Given this scenario, the source also assured that Cornelder de Moçambique has already put in place a plan to expand the fertilizer and mineral terminals.
