The people of Maputo city and province have joined forces to rebuild police infrastructure destroyed in the wake of the post-election demonstrations.

These are police stations and posts that are being rehabilitated with the support of the collective effort of residents, who fear an increase in crime due to the lack of police subunits.

According to a NewsThis is the case of the KM-16 police stations in the Boane district of Mailha and the Habel Jafar police station in Marracuene, Maputo province, which were handed over to the police after rehabilitation work. The infrastructures had been set on fire during the demonstrations that took place all over the country.

According to the spokesman for the PRM's General Command, Leonel Muchina, this action has been taking shape all over the country, especially in areas where several sub-units have been destroyed, putting a strain on the police's permanent presence to guarantee security.

"The corporation has been raising awareness among the communities so that they don't take part in acts of vandalizing public infrastructures, especially police stations, which guarantee a fixed police presence in the neighbourhoods," added Leonel Muchina.
